South Carolina Statewide Candidate Election Transparency Scorecards

As part of the SC Freedom Fighters Grassroots Voter Education Initiative, statewide candidates running for Governor, Attorney General, and United States Senate were contacted regarding a series of election transparency and election reform questions currently being discussed throughout South Carolina.

Click to view the scorecards for these statewide races:
Governor • Attorney General • U.S. Senate

Candidates were asked the same standardized questionnaire regarding:
• hand-counted paper ballots
• precinct-level public ballot counting
• county election authority and transparency
• county pilot programs for election integrity initiatives
• support for future election reform legislation
• and defense of South Carolina’s constitutional authority over elections

The purpose of these scorecards is not to endorse candidates, but to provide South Carolina voters with direct candidate responses in a transparent and easily understandable format.

Responses are presented exactly as received. In cases where candidates provided clarifications or nuanced responses, those statements are included directly within the scorecards whenever possible.

Candidates and campaigns were contacted using publicly available campaign and legislative contact methods over a multi-week outreach period and were provided equal opportunity to participate.

One trend that became increasingly noticeable throughout this project was that many of the strongest and most direct responses came from candidates and legislators already publicly advocating for election reform, election transparency, and increased public accountability in the election process.

SC Freedom Fighters believes public trust in elections is foundational to representative government itself. If voters lose confidence in the transparency and integrity of elections, every issue that follows becomes harder for the public to trust.

Additional scorecards may continue to be updated as further responses are received.

South Carolina Election Reform Leadership Scorecards

As part of the SC Freedom Fighters Grassroots Voter Education Initiative, South Carolina legislators, House leadership, and Judiciary Committee leadership were contacted regarding a standardized set of election transparency and election reform questions currently being discussed throughout South Carolina.

The questionnaire focused on issues including:
• hand-counted paper ballots
• precinct-level public ballot counting
• county election authority and operational transparency
• county pilot programs for election integrity initiatives
• and support for future election reform legislation

Responses are presented exactly as received. Where legislators provided clarifications, qualifications, or nuanced responses, those statements were included directly within the scorecards whenever possible.

One trend that became increasingly noticeable throughout this project was that many of the strongest and most direct responses came from legislators already actively sponsoring, supporting, or publicly advocating for election reform efforts in South Carolina.

Several of these scorecards also focus specifically on South Carolina House leadership and Judiciary Committee leadership because those positions serve important legislative gatekeeping functions within the General Assembly. These leadership roles play a significant part in determining whether election-related legislation receives hearings, advances through committee, or ultimately reaches the House floor for consideration.

The purpose of these scorecards is not to endorse candidates or legislation, nor to attack individuals, but to provide South Carolina voters with greater transparency regarding election policy positions, legislative process influence, and public accountability surrounding election administration in South Carolina.

SC Freedom Fighters believes public trust in elections is foundational to representative government itself. Transparency, public accountability, and voter confidence within the election process are essential regardless of political affiliation.

Legislators were contacted using publicly available campaign and legislative contact methods and were provided equal opportunity to participate. Responses may continue to be updated if additional responses are submitted.

These district scorecards focus specifically on local races where voters will have a direct opportunity to influence the future direction of election policy, transparency, and public accountability within South Carolina government.

Candidates were asked the same standardized questions regarding:
• hand-counted paper ballots
• precinct-level public ballot counting
• county election authority and operational transparency
• county election integrity pilot programs
• and support for future election reform legislation

Responses are presented exactly as received. Where candidates provided clarifications, qualifications, or nuanced responses, those statements were included directly within the scorecards whenever possible.

Several of these local races are particularly important because they involve:
• incumbents versus challengers,
• candidates with differing approaches to election reform policy,
• or districts where election transparency has become a major concern among voters.

One trend that became increasingly noticeable throughout this project was that candidates already publicly discussing election transparency or election reform issues were often among the first to engage directly and provide detailed responses.

The purpose of these scorecards is not to endorse candidates, but to provide voters with greater transparency regarding where candidates stand on election administration, public accountability, and election reform issues before primary voting begins.

SC Freedom Fighters believes public trust in elections is foundational to representative government itself. Transparency, accountability, and voter confidence are essential regardless of political affiliation.

Candidates were contacted using publicly available campaign and legislative contact methods and were provided equal opportunity to participate. Responses may continue to be updated if additional verified responses are submitted directly to SC Freedom Fighters.
